By the Light
By the Light has been executed using spontaneous brush marks in a hot palette. Distinctive layers of mark-making are very much evident in the form of Matheson’s unique, visual language. Depth of interest within each layer tells a story of the process and the response to the land that the artist evidently embraces.
Inverness Framers have sourced a beautiful moulding for this series of work. A bespoke, deep, wooden tray frame which is hand finished by the artist. A reinforcement in the knowledge that this contemporary landscape work is a substantial statement piece.
The canvas stretchers are made with a hardwood: Tulipwood (American Yellow Poplar), known for its suitability for making canvases due to its resistance to warping, its inherent straightness and low emissions and its sustainable production.
