A long journey

There couldn’t have been a more perfect owner for this painting, ‘The Kyle from the Struie’. It seems we shared the same feeling when we were met with this extraordinary view, the feeling of ……nearly there!!

The Kyle’ painting is a large piece, large as in it is the biggest painting I have completed to date and too large to fit in any vehicle I could lay my hands on (6ft x 4ft). That is why I had to enlist help to carry it through Inverness high street in order to get it to the courier who would safely ship it to Luxembourg.

The view from the Struie is an iconic viewpoint which looks West over the Kyle of Sutherland, the hills beyond and East to the Dornoch Firth. It is instantly recognisable and it was important to me to make sure the outcome did it justice. It is a must see stop off on the NORTH COAST 500.

I have now seen images of the painting perfectly hung in its new home and can say the choice of an unusual aubergine coloured wooden frame really adds to the drama and richness of the work and a colour I have used several times since.

It is a lovely story to tell when you meet someone who really connects with a place that means something as important to them as it does to me.
